Showed up to a freezing (for SD) Fiesta Island this morning, completely socked in with fog. Met up with Tommy B and 2010 Kona Qualifier Jerry Ott. Jerry is a beast in m40-44, boasting a sub-5 bike split. It was so wet that everything I was wearing was literally dripping with the moisture in the air. Oh, and I forgot my gloves. Doh! Hands freeeezing, luckily TB had some no finger guys that were my saving grace. We had to be careful around the descending corner on the south side because TB slid out twice with his tires being questionable anyway.
WOD: Hour of Power
This is an oldie but a goodie, one hour of continuous riding, getting progressively faster with each lap, with the last lap being all out.
Things started to get intense about 25 minutes in, and with the three of us working together, got up to some pretty good speeds. Did I mention it was wet and windy?
Anyway, for the final lap, I took a serious pull on the front side and dropped Jerry (disclaimer: I was riding TT bike, others were on road bikes). It was down to Tommy and I. Averaged 26-27 all the way around. When it came time for the final sprint, I was on the front, Tommy attacked, I tucked in behind for 10 sec rest, and then went again. The day was mine. Great start for R2K. I can say, however, I am a walking zombie after this plus CF at lunch. Time to recover!
